ONE STEP AT A TIME AND YOU WILL SUCCEED

Updated: Apr 13, 2023

We dream about so many things every day, but we rarely make the decision to materialize any of these projects. Life is built little by little and we can't expect the things we want to happen magically. Choose one of those dreams and write down the plan that will lead you to fulfill it, how about it?

The perfect example I bring today is exercise. Since February 2015 I decided to include within my hectic daily schedule, one hour of exercise for me! It was a personal pact that I decided to undertake for my well-being and also for my family's, because when mom is well and feels good, the household runs much better! The first step is to find a moment during the day that you can dedicate to yourself. At first, in my case, this decision seemed out of tune and I felt selfish, but over time I began to feel that my energy, my temper and my figure improved. For me, it was key to belong to a small gym where I could have access to its owner and team of trainers, where their reason to exist was to instruct, accompany and help me materialize my needs in order to see results. In this way I arrived every morning at the gym with the clarity of my exercise routine to make the most of those 60 minutes that will be the fuel that will accompany me throughout the day and that, additionally will help me for my physical and mental health.

There will be days when emotionally you will be tempted to abandon the new routine, and to avoid this you should think that time flies by and in the end you will feel better because exercise generates not only wellness but a sense of well being while proud to have been in motion and met your goal, and the second thing is to think of simple rewards for me, such as an outing to eat, buy an outfit, change the tennis shoes etc ... The important thing is to have a goal, challenging but close that you can meet and once you meet it you give yourself your reward. Some goal ideas are: "This week I will walk 15 minutes a day at 8 am", "I will run at least 1 mile 3 days a week on the treadmill", etc.

The building of the exercise habit passed the test of fire when in March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, the gym that had become my refuge closed its doors for good. That would have been the perfect excuse to abandon that commitment, but I didn't let more than three days go by before I was organizing a space in the house where I could keep the space I had already set aside in my schedule for myself. I was adjusting to training with videos and with what I had learned some time ago, I was creating my weight equipment with things from home without waiting to have the dream gym to start. That corner was my salvation during the time when the world closed its doors and forced us to stay at home and wait for a more uncertain future than usual. Today I still train at home and I already have a gym with a decent equipment, and when I look around I realize what I have built, what I have learned and what I have transformed my mind and body through movement..

If you have been putting off physical activity for a long time, I assure you that it will always be very easy to find excuses not to do it before making the decision to change the routine. Dare to think about yourself, to find a balance in life by prioritizing and having clear goals that are aligned to your life project. Be unique and original, have fun and make an impact in your life and in the lives of your loved ones. Leave the excuses behind and dare! One step at a time and you will succeed!
