THE BENEFITS OF MCT OIL

The world of nutrition and wellness is full of terms and products that often capture your attention. One such product is MCT oil, which has gained popularity in recent years due to its purported health and performance benefits. Let's explore what exactly MCT oil is and what its goodness is for the body and mind.

What is MCT Oil?

MCT oil is extracted from the white flesh of the coconut, it has no odor or taste like coconut oil. The term "MCT" stands for "medium chain triglycerides", which refers to a type of fatty acid present in coconut oil. These triglycerides are saturated fats that are absorbed and metabolized directly in your body and do not accumulate as fat.

MCT oil is absorbed directly into the bloodstream and is carried to the liver without the need for traditional enzymes, where it is converted into ketones, a quick source of energy for the body and brain.

Potential Benefits of MCT Oil

  • Improves digestion

  • Provides quick energy for the body

  • Controls appetite and food cravings

  • Increases satiety

  • Increases mental clarity and cognitive function

  • Ally in cardiovascular health

  • Supports athletic performance

  • Helps decrease lactic acid buildup in the body

MCT oil could contribute to weight loss in the context of a healthy lifestyle.

What type of MCT oil to buy?

MCT oil is available in powder or liquid form. Regardless of the type of presentation, make sure to choose ideally the MCT oil of 8 or 10 carbon atoms, C8 or C10 on the label. Between C8 and C10, MCT 8 or caprylic oil is the best because it converts into ketones more quickly, is easier for the body to assimilate and crosses the blood-brain barrier, i.e., it manages to reach the nerve cells, however, either is a good alternative. Look for a brand that you trust and without flavorings, here are two links to the ones I use:

Ways to Incorporate MCT Oil into your Routine

If you have never taken MCT oil, introduce it little by little in your diet, since at the beginning it can generate stomach discomfort, creating a laxative action, due to the fact that it is pure fat and you have to prepare your organism. Start with 1 teaspoon a day and little by little you can increase it based on your tolerance until you reach 1 tablespoon a day.

  • If you are looking to lose weight, take it on an empty stomach alone or with your ketogenic coffee.

  • If you are looking to gain weight, take it mixed with your food.

Finally, if you are interested in exploring new additions to your diet and wellness routine, MCT oil may be an option worth considering. Keep in mind that, by itself, MCT oil is not going to generate any change in your health if you do not modify your natural eating habits, light environment, movement, sleep and stress management, mainly. Everything must be managed holistically to achieve your goals and that, as with any supplement, moderation and education are key.
